The main purpose of the job

Reporting directly to the Outpatient Business Manager, the outpatient referrals coordinator is primarily responsible for managing outpatient therapy referrals.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Responding, assessing, and allocating outpatient therapy referrals and enquiries. This includes triaging and risk-assessing referrals as necessary
  • Being a point of contact for all sessional therapists with issues surrounding referrals, patients, or therapy, and escalating queries when required
  • Liaising closely with consultant psychiatrists and other referrers regarding referrals for outpatient individual therapy
  • Updating the referrals database with relevant information
  • Rotation of reception duties for the hospital’s therapy center (currently undergoing construction)
  • Meeting and inducting new consultant psychiatrists and therapists to explain the hospital’s referrals pathway 

Requirements

The following skills and qualifications are desirable:

  • GCSE or equivalent
  • Postgraduate degree in relevant area (psychology or similar degree is desirable)
  • Experience with an administrative role
  • Experience working within a mental health environment
  • Strong and confident communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently as well as in a team
  • Awareness of and ability to address customer satisfaction needs
  • Good time-keeping skills
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business
