The main purpose of the job

Reporting directly to the Head Chef, a kitchen porter is primarily responsible for ensuring kitchen cleanliness, basic food preparation, and maintaining kitchen organisation. 

Main responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring basic cleaning jobs are carried out as quickly as possible
  • Collecting and wash up pots and pans
  • Cleaning food preparation areas and equipment, in addition to crockery and cutlery
  • Unload food and equipment deliveries
  • Keeping work surfaces, walls and floors clean and sanitised
  • Keeping the storeroom organised
  • Emptying all trash bins and ensure that all waste is disposed of promptly
  • Helping with routine food prep tasks (such as peeling and chopping vegetables) when needed
  • Sweeping and mopping floors at the beginning and ending of shifts

Requirements

  • Basic level of education
  • 1 year of experience in a similar role
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work 
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work as a team and take direction
  • Good communication skills both verbal and reading
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues, patients and visitors
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business
