Do your children have to vie with your iPhone for your attention in the evenings? Do you feel twitchy in the morning if you haven’t checked your messages? Having pooh-poohed them a couple of years ago, have you embraced the selfie? Then perhaps it’s not your children’s use of technology that you should be worrying about, but your own.

Why do we feel the need to capture ourselves? Vanity, yes, but Dr Richard Graham, a consultant adolescent psychiatrist who launched the UK’s first technology addiction clinic at Nightingale Hospital in London, has described the selfie as a “plea not to be forgotten”.
