Professional experience
Deborah Beard has worked in mental health for five years, following a long career in Health and Fitness Education. She is passionate about the connection between mental and physical well-being. A registered member of the BACP, Deborah trained as a therapist with The Counselling Foundation in St. Albans and remains committed to continuous professional development. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in contemporary psychodynamic therapy, reflecting her belief that learning is a lifelong process. Having undergone many years of personal therapy, Deborah can personally attest to its transformative benefits.
In addition to her work in health and fitness, Deborah has supported patients and families at the end of life and recently worked as a Medical Examiner Officer for the NHS. She also runs a private therapy practice, where she works with clients dealing with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, OCD, phobias, bereavement, and relationship difficulties.
As a therapist, Deborah aims to provide a non-judgmental, unconditional space where clients can bring their whole selves. She recognises that therapy can be challenging, but believes it enables individuals to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the issues holding them back. Deborah views asking for help in times of adversity as a sign of strength, courage, and a commitment to self-worth.
Personal statement
Deborah believes that everyone is born innocent and loveable and is passionate about the idea that everyone deserves the right to be heard. In her practice, she treats a wide range of clients, always considering the emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of personhood. She emphasises a holistic approach to therapy, recognising the importance of addressing all facets of an individual’s well-being.
