World Health Day gives the World Health Organization (WHO) a special opportunity to turn the world’s attention to a specific health topic of concern every year.

This year’s theme is Depression: Let’s Talk. But what is depression?

Our friends at Nightingale Hospital, London’s leading mental health hospital, told us: “Depression is an illness characterised by persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities that you normally enjoy, accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities, for at least two weeks. Yet, depression can be prevented and treated.” The WHO wants to change the way the world sees this mental illness and encourage more people with depression, in all countries, to seek and get help.
