29th July 2014 – The Sun – Keep Calm and Cray-On

It is official; we are a nation of stress heads.

A third of us feel stressed every day – with one in five of us on medication from the doctor to deal with symptoms. Our exclusive YouGov poll found work to be the primary cause, with a third of us blaming the job or colleagues for our stress levels, close behind are financial worries. Three in ten (31%) worry about cash flow and 29 percent feel they don’t have enough hours in the day to fit everything in.

Stress busting methods range from deep breathing and meditation to even Crayoning – but most people swerve such relaxing pastimes.

Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, a sleep consultant at Nightingale Hospital, London, says: “Women often have to juggle jobs, children, partner’s schedules and run a household. It can be hard work, especially with the pace of today. Stress happens when pressure exceeds your ability to cope. The best ways to ensure you can cope is to make sure you have a healthy diet, get regular exercise, have regular social interactions and have a set purpose.”

Dr Ramlakhan adds: “It is a misconception that if people earn more money they will be happier.”
