My professional experience:

As well as Nightingale Hospital London, I currently work for the NHS at the Maudsley Hospital, Mental Health & Wellbeing Service providing a general psychiatry service to Trust employees. At Nightingale Hospital, as well as providing individual therapy, I facilitate interpersonal therapy groups and groups for adolescents. Previous experience includes working for Combat Stress, the ex-service personnel mental health and welfare charity treating complex PTSD in an inpatient setting, for complex trauma resulting from military service. I also have several years’ experience as a senior psychologist with a private sector therapy service specialising in general psychiatry with a focus on vocational rehabilitation following long term sickness absence, working with several multinational city firms. Prior to that I was the project coordinator of a Young Carers Project affiliated to The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, working with children and families affected by mental health, substance misuse, learning and physical disabilities, managing and supervising a team of staff and volunteers, fundraising and multi-disciplinary work with Children’s’ Services, schools and CAMHs. Since 1998, and in an ongoing capacity, I have been commissioned to write and edit content for various BBC on-line and magazine publications on a range of issues affecting adolescents. I also have several years’ experience working with older adults, with two years’ experience managing an older adults’ care home. I have also developed my private practice over the past 12 years, working with a wide variety of patients and presenting issues.

My personal Statement:

As a counselling psychologist I practice an integrative approach, my main model is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) but I also integrate psychodynamic and person centred therapy when necessary, aiming to provide a holistic approach that meets individual needs. I have extensive experience of working with a broad range of presenting difficulties, particularly depression, anxiety disorders and interpersonal and relationship difficulties, but specialise in the treatment of trauma and PTSD, in particular military / combat trauma, childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault.

Having practiced in London for many years I have extensive experience of working with a diverse, multi-cultural population, with adults, adolescents and older adults within the NHS, private and charitable sectors.

I also have 10 years’ experience of working as a Shared Care volunteer, providing respite care to children with physical and learning disabilities for my local authority fostering team.
