My professional experience:
I have over ten years experience working as a Psychotherapist in a variety of settings including an inpatient neuro rehabilitation hospital, university, older peoples charity and in private practice. This has given me capacity to work with people from many different backgrounds. I have been working for Nightingale Hospital since 2010 as part of the inpatient team and for the outpatient services, running groups and individual therapy sessions.
My career spans 22 years in the healthcare profession, including as registered manager of a neuro-rehabilitation centre and coordinator of various therapeutic groups.
I work with short term and open ended contracts and help clients to understand various aspects of themselves and their dilemmas, in order to enable sustained positive change.
My personal statement:
As an Integrative Psychotherapist I believe it is important to gain an understanding of each client and the issues they bring to therapy and through a thorough assessment create the most appropriate approach for that individual. I work at depth with them gaining an awareness of the past traumatic, negative or positive experiences which they bring, present dilemmas and future aspirations. I draw on various tools to increase self awareness and to enable the client to make positive changes, including using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques to work with limiting beliefs and behaviour patterns.
My integrative training covered various approaches, which enables me to consider the clients issues from a broad and archetypal understanding. My additional training in expressive arts in therapy allows me to offer this powerful method to access emotions and help express them.
I offer a non-judgmental and open approach to listening to the client and have helped many people to relate to themselves in a more compassionate and loving way.
I undertake my own continuing professional and personal development to enhance my own practice and to maintain a professional approach to my work for the benefit of clients.
Additional information about my research, publications and interests:
I have researched the use of creative arts methods and the use of archetypal mythology in therapy. I run workshops using myths, supported and enriched by incorporating art and movement, as a therapeutic body-soul approach to personal development.
