Professional experience

Dr Nnatu was qualified in 1994 and this was followed by postgraduate psychiatric training in London on the Charing Cross and St Mary’s training scheme leading to the award of the MRCPsych by examination in 2002. As a specialist registrar, he undertook further training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, leading to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT in 2006. 

Dr Nnatu was appointed as a consultant general adult psychiatrist in the NHS in 2006 where he worked for many years as the lead consultant on a psychiatric intensive care unit and lead consultant for the ECT clinic. Both services were accredited with excellence by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, College Centre for Quality Improvement CCQI. He worked as a consultant psychiatrist at Charing Cross Hospital, London where he was also a local college tutor for psychiatric trainees for four years. Dr Nnatu retired from the NHS in 2022 to concentrate on his private practice. He remains an honorary clinical senior lecturer with Imperial College London where he is also an academic tutor to medical students. He was also elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists FRCPsych in 2013. 

Dr Nnatu has been involved in private practice for over 10 years and he was medical director at Cygnet Hospital Harrow (formerly Bowden House Clinic) for 7 years. He has a keen interest in leadership and he has an MSc in healthcare leadership at the NHS Leadership Academy. He is the lead consultant for general psychiatry at Nightingale Hospital. 

Dr Nnatu was featured on the Powerlist from 2019 for three consecutive years, as one of the one hundred most influential Black people in the UK. 

Personal statement

Dr Nnatu is a vastly experienced and highly sought-after psychiatrist and he is known for delivering holistic, compassionate, high quality, person-centred care. He has an interest in functional, integrative psychiatry having undergone training with the Institute for Functional Medicine.
