CPD event: the complexities and challenges of engaging and treating patients with eating disorders
We are hosting an evening event for GPs, Consultant Psychiatrists, and therapists at the Portland Suite, Grange Fitzrovia Hotel on Tuesday 12th of June.
The event will explore the complexities and challenges of engaging and treating patients with eating disorders. Following the Parliamentary & Health Service Ombudsman Report, highlighted, amongst many things, the crucial need for effective assessment, coordination and care planning when dealing with patients with eating disorders. Early intervention is key and the role of a GP can be vitally important.
During this event two speakers will make a presentation, please see the details below:
- Dr Helen Murphy, Consultant Psychiatrist & Eating Disorders Lead at Nightingale Hospital, will explore GP Interventions in Eating Disorders. This talk will explore the ‘what to do and why’ of primary care interventions and include advice on initial assessment, what and when to test, and provide guidance on when to refer for specialist intervention.
- Dr Joanna Silver, Counselling Psychologist & Lead Therapist for Eating Disorders Nightingale Hospital, will explore Eating Disorders: A Psychological Perspective. This talk will discuss how to engage and treat patients with eating disorders and will describe some of the features of the specialist eating disorder therapy programme at Nightingale Hospital. It will additionally explore how we can support people who are caring for loved ones with eating disorders.
Professor Hubert Lacey will chair this event, he is Consultant Psychiatrist & Eating Disorders Specialist. Professor of Psychiatry at the University of London and Professor Emeritus, St George’s, University Of London.
