How are your resolutions going? – Apparently over 40 per cent of people who make a New Year’s resolution have broken it by now.

Dr Monica Cain a Mindfulness and CBT Therapist at Nightingale Hospital London comments on how to stick to new year’s resolutions.

Part of the process is being prepared to deal with difficult feelings and situations differently, as well as scheduling in positive steps. “When you become aware of a difficult feeling, remind yourself that feelings are a short-term discomfort and will pass with time,” says Dr Cain. Should there be a setback or mistake, don’t beat yourself up about it. “It is not helpful to have an ‘all or nothing’ attitude. Remind yourself of how far you have come, or the changes you’ve made so far.” Dr Cain’s advice? Carry on and remember – you only fail by stopping.
