Mental Health Consultant Psychiatrist Outpatient Appointment

12 June 2017

Men’s Health Week is starting this week (12-18 June), and our specialists at Nightingale Hospital can offer assessment and treatment if you need support.

Society is recognising Men’s mental health…….

Suicide is the biggest killer of young men under 45, and two-thirds of people have admitted to experiencing a mental health problem at some point in their lives. 2017 has seen some high-profile names committing to the mental health conversation from Prince Harry to the rapper, Stormzy.

Traditionally there has been a stigma associated with men speaking about their mental health, but the calls to talk have never been louder. Dr Richard Graham, child and adolescent psychiatrist at Nightingale Hospital, thinks:

“Spaces should be created where men can let their guard down and feel comfortable talking about their mental health. This could include Pistonheads, Overclockers and golfing forums.”

Male services at Nightingale hospital

Nightingale Hospital specialists have also seen a rise in male patients with orthorexic tendencies (an obsession with clean-eating). Dr Chheda-Varma comments that:

“Social media is a major contributing factor to body-image disorders. It causes a perfectionist attitude.”

If you would like to discuss any of the above mental health issues, please do not hesitate to call our Patient Services Team confidentially on 020 7535 7732 or patientservices@nightingalehospital.co.uk.
