In support of Alcohol Awareness Week, and to support its important theme this year of ‘Change’, Nightingale Hospital is hosting a key event for GPs, Consultant Psychiatrists, therapists and nurses at Chandos House on Tuesday 27th November.

Topic: “Denial Is Not A River In Egypt” – How can doctors help their patients to develop insight into their drinking behaviour?
Dr Mike McPhillips is a leading authority on the treatment of psychiatric and addictive disorders with many years of experience in both the NHS and private sectors. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. This seminar will explore the complexities and challenges of engaging patients with unhealthy drinking patterns. It will include guidance on ‘what to do and why’ in primary care and include advice on initial assessment, what, when and if to test, and provide guidance on when to refer for specialist intervention.
