Counselling is a talk-centred therapy which provides a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space in which to explore issues that are interfering with levels of functioning and interpersonal skills.
Depending on the type of counselling a patient receives, they will develop a bond of trust over a number of sessions with the same counsellor. This will enable the patient to disclose private thoughts and feelings, leading to greater insight, self-esteem and self-respect. Ultimately, this may lead to changes in behaviour, thoughts, feelings and ways of relating to themselves and others.
