Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a clinically proven method of alleviating psychological distress. It helps people to identify unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that are linked to emotional distress and unproductive patterns of behaviour. By learning to challenge their negative thoughts and irrational beliefs, people can learn to create alternative and more helpful emotional and behavioural responses

CBT is a highly collaborative therapy where motivation and patient responsibility is the key to success. Patients are supported in finding specific goals and ways of identifying and challenging problems. Work is taken from therapy and the skills learned are implemented through cognitive and behavioural exercises between sessions. This gives the patient the tools to be able to help themselves solve problems on their own, giving them a sense of autonomy over their personal psychological wellbeing.
