My professional qualifications, accreditations and memberships:
I qualified in 1980 from Trinity College Dublin and embarked on a training in general practice. I have experience in infectious diseases, medical microbiology, paediatrics, and obstetrics.
I have been a psychiatrist since 1984 and a consultant in the field of addictions since 1992.
I am the Medical Director at Nightingale Hospital London.
My personal statement:
I am interested in helping people cope with mental health problems and especially in assisting those who are attempting to negotiate the path to recovery from addictions.
Additional information about my research, publications and interests:
For 20 years, until July 2013, I was Lead Clinician/ Clinical Director in the NHS working in the CNWL NHS Foundation Trust’s Addiction Directorate. I lectured, and continue to lecture, in the medical school and held the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer with Imperial College.
