Chi Kung, spelt “qigong” in Romanized Chinese, is the art of developing “skills in using energy”. It has been practised for around two thousand years to promote health, vitality and longevity.
Chi Kung is a practical way of making your energy work for you. In recent research Chi Kung has shown effects in reducing anxiety, stress, depression and PTSD symptoms, reducing chronic pain, improving levels of cortisol and and DHEA, and increasing sleep quality. It has also been shown to be effective in improving Heart Rate Variability/Cardiac Coherence, which has been correlated with cognitive performance, perceptual awareness and psychiatric morbidity. (Coherent Heart, Prof. Alan Watkins, Imperial College)
Chi Kung at Capio Nightingale is the system taught by Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit, the author of several books in this area and recipient of the “QiGong Master of the Year” award in 1997. This high-level form of Chi Kung is a practice that can be used by patients to participate in their recovery and on-going wellbeing. It has been shown to be highly effective when practised for as little as 15 minutes a day.
