Biography

Elmer has worked as an addiction therapist since 1988, initially within the 12 Step model for CDC at Thurston House. From 1990 -1996 he worked and trained at the Maudesley and then The Royal Bethlem Hospitals Addictions Directorate under Professor John Strang. In 1996 he returned to 12 Step as the manager of the drug rehabilitation unit in Pentonville Prison and in 1999 he co-authored a Rehabilitation Programme for the RAPt organisation which became the first addiction treatment programme in the UK to achieve accreditation. In 2000 he became Clinical Director of the RAPt, 12 Step programmes.

Since 2005, in addition to a regular return to individual practice, Elmer has worked as a consultant for RAPt, and other organisations, including the Drug & Alcohol Foundation, setting up treatment programmes and training staff.

Further to his extensive experience in the field of addiction, Elmer also holds diplomas in Clinical Hypnosis and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy.
