Dr Refaat has been a Consultant and Hon. Senior Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since December 2001. He was a Lecturer in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at UCL/ Royal Free Medical School and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children from 1996 to 2001.
Dr Refaat has been working with Children and Young People and their families since 1995 and runs one of the best established and age appropriate NHS In/Day-patient Service in the country. He also offers consultation to the Adolescent Unit at Capio Nightingale Hospital.
Dr Refaat has special interest in Adolescent Psychiatry (Psychosis, Bipolar Disorder, Self Harm, Depression & Anxiety, Eating Disorder, and School Related Problems). His area of expertise is Neurodevelopmental Disorders (Autism, ADHD, OCD, Tourette’s syndrome, Aspergers syndrome).
Dr Refaat has a diploma in family therapy and couple therapy and has been running family workshops for the last 7 years for different child and adolescent mental health problems.
Dr Refaat offers individual therapies to young people with emotional and character problems (CBT, MBT and IPT) . He has access to inpatient beds for young people who harm themselves or have eating disorder and mental health problems. Dr Refaat offers teaching at medical school and medical students are always attached to his NHS unit. He has an outpatient clinic at Capio Nightingale Hospital and at Wimpole Street for children and young people from the age of 0 to 18.
