Biography

Dr Loughlin graduated from Bart's Hospital in 1992. He undertook post-graduate training in London and Oxford before his appointment as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in 2001.

Dr Loughlin specialises in the following areas:

General Adult Psychiatry: Addictions, Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and other Psychotic Disorders, PTSD, OCD, Phobic Travel Disorder, Panic and Anxiety Disorders and Somatoform Disorders.

Older Adult Psychiatry: Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Disease, Fronto-temporal Lobe Dementia, Stroke and Parkinson’s Disease.

Medico-legal Practise: Reports for personal injury; work related stress; post-traumatic stress; fitness to work; insurance (health and occupational); criminal injury; criminal behaviour and medico-legal proceedings under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection.

Research

Dr Loughlin is currently working in collaboration with the NHS Mental Health Research Network, North London Hub, and the Dementia and Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Network, DeNDRoN, Thames Valley Region. He has also worked with the Cochrane Collaboration.

Teaching

Dr Loughlin provides teaching sessions for patients, carers, G.P.s and other health professionals. In his NHS post he teaches trainee psychiatrists, preparing for exams, and medical students on placement from Southampton University.
