Child & Adolescent Services

Nightingale Hospital’s Young Persons Unit is committed to positively changing the lives of the young people it treats. To reassure you, you are not alone. The feelings of unhappiness and isolation can end.  We have many years of experience in supporting young people so give us a chance to help you.

If you are a parent of a young person with mental health or emotional problems, we understand the hard decision ahead of you of how best to help your child. We are here to support you through the process.

Dr Alex Horne, lead child and adolescent consultant at Nightingale Hospital, says “The earlier any problems are addressed and confronted head-on, the more likely a diagnosis and appropriate treatment programme can begin. With the treatment programmes available at Nightingale’s Young Persons Unit, children and young people have access to the highest standards of care in order to support recovery.”

Our brand new purpose built unit is adjacent to the main hospital in Marylebone. We provide inpatient and day services for private patients and admit young people, both male and female, from age 12 to 17 years.

Staffed by a full multi-disciplinary clinical team of Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrists, ward doctors, psychologists, family therapists and nurses we deliver evidence based treatments with compassion and respect.

The service provides all patients with a structured and comprehensive therapeutic programme. This consists of group, individual and family therapy sessions. The unit also has a classroom and full time teacher to support patients in maintaining school work and college work.

All patients have their own individual bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.  A communal living room with dining and kitchen area, group and individual therapy rooms, class room, computer room and relaxation space provide an environment to aid recovery.

We also have a full range of psychiatric and therapeutic outpatient services for young people.

Conditions treated within the unit:

  • Eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders
  • Depression
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Severe anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Self-harm
  • Personality disorders
  • Psychosis
